The TrolMaster WN-9 is the dedicated sensing node for the WCS-9 system, engineered to provide growers with accurate insight into what is happening directly within the root zone.

Its durable stainless-steel probes continuously measure Volumetric Water Content (VWC) and substrate EC, while an integrated temperature sensor monitors root-zone temperature. Tracking all three parameters gives growers the data needed to understand substrate behaviour and make irrigation decisions based on actual conditions rather than timers or assumptions.

The WN-9 is designed to perform in both traditional soil and high-EC soilless growing media, making it particularly useful for professional cultivation in coco and other substrates commonly used with high-frequency fertigation systems.

Root-Zone Data for Advanced Crop Steering

In advanced crop steering, knowing how much nutrient solution has been applied is only part of the picture. Growers also need to understand how substrate moisture changes throughout the irrigation cycle, how EC rises or falls within the root zone, and how the growing medium responds between irrigation events.

The WN-9 measures these variables directly at root level, allowing growers to track substrate hydration and dryback patterns while gaining a clearer understanding of EC behaviour. This provides a reliable data foundation for fine-tuning irrigation frequency, shot size, timing, and overall fertigation strategy.

When integrated into the WCS-9 ecosystem, the system also supports Feed on Demand control strategies, allowing irrigation management to respond more closely to actual substrate conditions.

Daisy-Chain Up to 4 Sensors for More Representative Data

A single substrate sensor can sometimes provide a misleading reading if it is positioned near a preferential water channel, an unusually dry area, or a localized zone of salt accumulation. TrolMaster addresses this limitation with the WN-9's scalable daisy-chain architecture.

Up to four WN-9 Sensor Nodes can be connected in series, allowing measurements to be collected from multiple locations within the growing medium. The system can aggregate these readings to provide a more representative average of actual root-zone conditions, an important advantage in professional cultivation environments where irrigation uniformity and data accuracy are critical.

Built for Professional Cultivation Systems

Beyond its core sensing capabilities, the WN-9 incorporates features designed for integration into advanced cultivation control systems, including dynamic reading intervals, simplified calibration, multi-sensor data aggregation, and scalable connectivity.

This modular architecture allows growers to start with a simple monitoring setup and add additional sensing points as required, making it possible to expand root-zone monitoring without replacing the entire system.
